Day One- Ohio to Wisconsin

You know how you make all these grand plans to leave by a certain time? Yeah, they never work out!! We know this but yet, we’re still surprised when we leave two hours later than originally planned. We would have been ready to go, however we were spending time with our Ohio family last night with a bonfire, s’mores and all the kids running around together for a last hurrah. These things are important, especially since Faith and Caleb barely get to see their cousins in Oh very often as it is. Anyway, we left later than planned. We planned our route had the GPS on my phone ready to go…and off we went, not as packed to the gills as we were on the way to Ohio. We had another teary good bye with Jenn and Tina, the kids were so sad to say goodbye to Nana and their cousin Emi…then were sad because they haven’t seen Owen and Eli in a couple weeks…needless to say the first hour or so was quiet and a bit sad. We passed through Ohio and Indiana with no problems! That is when we realized our fatal error…we didn’t make a route AROUND Chicago, we mapped ourselves right through it. Yuck, I am not a fan of driving through that city at all, it took us 2.5 hours and for over an hour of it my 4 year old had to pee!! We were in a traffic crawl with no exits and he was doing his best to not have an accident, we finally worked our way to an exit and stopped at a Walgreens and the crisis was averted, we jumped back on to 90West to discover we had been 2 miles from a rest stop!! Once we got out of Chicago it was smooth sailing into Madison, Wi…our next stop- Brooklyn Park, MN!!! We are going to see our friends, the Swenson’s!!!  Stay tuned, now that the kids have splish splashed in the pool and are tucked in for the night, they’re ready to continue the adventure tomorrow.
